Sold a Dell XPS M1210 Laptop with Complete Care warranty until July 2008
SV_UMR was the Buyer on January 26, 2007 AnandTech
Let me start off by saying I wish I?ÇÖd gone with my gut feeling and stopped the trade before it occurred. I offered my M1210 on 1/27 via PM on Anandtech. He asked for my AIM name and we continued the conversation there. A price was agreed upon and pictures were to be sent. After pictures were sent, he asked about the warranty and if I had a receipt as well as to verify the condition. As I had told him on AIM, I did not have a receipt as I did not buy it directly from Dell. I said it is in LIKE NEW condition. From there what was included was discussed. After payment was sent, he tells me that he is leaving for the Marines and that his PARENTS would complete the deal, NOT HIM. I inspected the laptop thoroughly to see if there was anything I missed and came across two minor blemishes. I immediately offered a refund, which he refused. I had the notebook out getting it ready to ship, and my cat jumped on it and scratched the Dell logo. I immediately informed him of this and offered a refund or to get it fixed before shipping. He refused a refund and said to get it fixed. He then questions me about the warranty (forgetting what I have told him on AIM). I told him it was purchased with the 2 year complete care warranty. He then says ?Ç£I thought you said you got the pretty much most expensive warranty from Dell, which would be four years.?Ç¥ I told him that the warranty was EXPENSIVE, not the MOST EXPENSIVE. He also says ?Ç£Also, I thought I remembered in our AIM conversation that you said you bought the laptop three months ago. But you said the warranty expires in 7/08, which would mean that you got the laptop in July, which would make it you having the laptop for about six months, not three. So exactly what warranty is on the laptop??Ç¥ As I stated to him before, I did not buy it from Dell. I got it three months ago, but it wasn?ÇÖt purchased from DELL three months ago. He leaves (Jan 29) and I have the parts sent to the Dell tech(the whole screen assembly). On Feb 1 his father emails me asking if the part has been replaced yet. I tell him that the parts have reached the tech and will be replace on Monday, January 5 (the first day he can be in my area). The laptop is shipped Monday, January 5 via FedEx. It arrived January 8th. His father emails me that day and asks me to transfer the warranty. I do so once the information is received from him as to who/where they want the warranty to be transferred to. I ask that heat be left. Three days later I ask about the heat again (Jan 11). On January 13th, his father tells me that the warranty hasn?ÇÖt been transferred. I informed him that it takes 10-15 days since I wasn?ÇÖt the original purchaser. On January 18th, Steven sends me an email accusing me of lying because he has apparently forgotten what has been said throughout the deal. He also complains about a time delay. He was informed of everything AND it was shipped the DAY THE PARTS WERE REPLACED. He is extremely rude and does not get his facts straight in the email. I offered to refund his money several times but he refused. I kept him fully informed every step of the way and went out of my way to make sure there would be no problems before shipping the laptop. Bottom line, this guy can?ÇÖt keep his facts straight and if you ever deal with him on AIM, be sure to save your conversations. I have all of the emails (90+) to back up what I have said (other than the AIM conversation about not purchasing it from Dell) if there are any doubts.
Response from MorbidSteveBottom line is this:
We agree on a price, I pay for what you have told me. AFTER I send the money, you find the flaws. If you were to be a respectful seller, you would have looked over your product before recieving money. I don\'t feel the need to bash you as you have me, but not all of the cosmetic details were even divulged. I\'m sorry that I wasn\'t able to see every little detail on the picture, I guess that\'s my fault. I guess it\'s my fault that you place your computer in a position that your cat could scratch your laptop, and I guess it\'s my fault that you wait untill AFTER I send the money.
Anyone who would like the emails, please ask for them, I was accused of being rude multiple times becuase I asked how these things popped out of no where.
Not so sure, but if I was selling a laptop, I would thoroughly inspect it BEFORE I asked for the money?
I guess this is why the American public is such a failure these days.February 20, 2007
