Paid for a video card, never received. Filed paypal dispute.
ZipMach was the Buyer on November 30, 2003 AnandTech
(links on the bottom)
I paypald David $80 for a vidcard I highly expressed that I needed ASAP. He agreed to ship out the next day in our terms. After paypaling, I sent him a lil PM next day to confirm he shipped. I received no reply. He has logged in every day for a couple of days after I paypald, bumped his thread a few times and completely ignored my PMs.
After that, he went MIA for TWO weeks. Logged in once around Nov26th, and no response neither. (Neither to any of my emails)
After 2 weeks, I filed a paypal dispute and did some investigating. I found his phone number and called his house. He gave me the usual excuses "emergency" "internetproblems" "Havent used the computer" "my girlfriend uses the computer". All that, and then he said he had "shipped" the video card, so he felt no communication was neccesary. I asked for proof, he said he doesn't have none. No DC or receipt. EVEN is his words prior to our deal "youll see the card in 2 days", which is true..Priority delivery time between VA/NJ is 2 days. Didn't see no vid card for 2 weeks.
In the phone call, I told him there is another member that also is complaining about his lack of communication. The member said he sent David some memory and still has not received payment. David told me he sent him payment. Anyways, his voice sounded shaky and I told him he needs to make good. He asked how, I told him for one he could refund my money in the paypal dispute, he said ok.
After hanging up, 1 hour later I had a full refund.
If I had not done investigating and gotten a hold of his number, there would be no refund whatsoever. There is no excuse..he bumped his thread every day for about a month, he sold one thing and then went MIA for two weeks. He has logged on and completely ignored PMs.
I would not pay David upfront, and I would stay away from this trader. He still has another unresolved trade, maybe even has more.
Here is the main thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=45&threadid=1176809 and the second thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=45&threadid=1195177
Response from bilboI sent the card I still do not have it in my possesion ontop of that I did not respond becuase I was in the hospital and things got behind ( IE I had no computer access in the hospital)Shortly there after I recieve a phone call from him about the situation and got off the phone with him and went into the next room and refunded his money in less than 10 minutes to resolve the problem. Aso for "logging on" and not responding I did not use my computer telepathically from the hospital but my girlfriend often uses my pc and browses anandtech and yes she would not payattention to PM's. All I wanted was a good transaction and things happend and now I have no card and no money.November 30, 2003

Mr. Disturbed (22)
Purchased a 40gb WD drive + TombRaider angel of darkness CD

I paypald Carter funds with terms that he would ship quickly the following day. He did. However the way he shipped the Hard Drive was horrendous and totally unacceptable. He threw in a bare drive with bare cds in a 8x6ish padded manila envelope. :(
After items arrived, I was rather upset. The 2nd was cracked which instantly shattered inside my CDRW. Contacted him via AIM and told him I have not tested the HD, and the cd came cracked. He promised to ship a copy of the 2nd cd from his 'backup'. 2 days later, I tested the hard drive. Upon formatting and installing XP, the drive makes a "clack-clucking" sound every 4-10 minutes.
This does not sound normal, especially from a drive which he said was a new working pull from a machine which his father gave him.
I contacted him again, and mentioned the HD problem. He started accusing me of "nit picking" & "it seems like you are looking for things to be wrong to cause problems with our deal."
I told him the drive sound and cracked cd was not me nitpicking, but a high possibility damaged from his improper packaging.
A couple of days later, Drive errors began. Obvious "clucking" sounds and the pc upon booting gave "drive reading error". Took about 4-5 restarts to get it to boot, and extremely slowish.
His take, "the drive is fine, was fine, and will be fine", his attitude presented no intention of resolution. I left it like that, I was almost getting caught in online fight and debate over my damaged goods. A day later, I took the drive out and threw it on the floor.
I made a post on Anandtech, "http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=45&threadid=1182449" with pictures on the HD/cd packaging. He now said I am a liar, and the cd in the picture are not the one he sent me, because they didnt say OEM or NFR. Another member clarified this by going to a local shop and looked at games bundled with hardware. Not all games necessarily say OEM or NFR.
It's been about a month now. The 2nd 'Backup' copy of the cd had NOT arrived. Keep in mind, he lives in PA and I in NJ. Mail delivery times between us is 1-2 days. He told me he shipped it one week. Waited about 11 days, nothing. Contacted him again, said he will mail USPS Priority. Another week flew by, nothing. Contacted him again and said he will ship a 3rd time, using UPS Ground with Track#.
On the 13th I asked for confirmation on shipping. He said he didn't do it. I asked if he has been lying on the first and second shipping. He openly admitted he lied about them. "yes I lied, at least I can admit it" he said. With him saying that, I will safely assume the 3rd shipping will never happen since he lied about the first and second shipping.
I've had not ask for no refund, except a copy of the working game which he promised. I know he had no intentions of refunding. And I am not about to engage in a battle for months, he himself said "what are you talking about, I shipped many HDs before like this without no problem"..Obviously if he did, no one posted a rating based on that horrible shipping.
I would not deal with carter again. I am giving a negative based on his unprofessional horrible packaging of a HD, lack of resolution, accusing me of nit picking, and openly calling me a liar, and ultimately for admitting he lied TWICE on shipping the backup CD. Also for calling Anandtech members "arrogant A**holes".

good_sense (17)
Purchased a Electric Guitar by Fender.
ZipMach was the Buyer on July 20, 2002 ArsTechnica
Kinda hate to do this, but I feel not happy by this whole deal.
I put up a post on Ars looking for a E. Guitar. Chris responded to me and said he had one. I offered a price, he accepted. I called him personally over the phone to work out details. It was Monday. I asked if the guitar was in good shape. He said everything is perfect except for a lil nick on the backside from a belt buckle. We agreed on cross shipping. He said most likely he will ship same night or following day. I ran to post office to make sure my MO was on the way. Tuesday came. He could not get it out Monday, so he tells me Tuesday. Wednesday came and he tells me DIDNT mail out Tuesday. But he would include some guitar software to make up. He says he shipped the guitar Wednsday. He gave me a track number. Tracking number doesnt show up. He tells me may take a bit. Well.. tracking number shows up Thursday night with details that payment/package received was 19:00 hours or so. He tells me dont worry, he knows a contact at fedex and guitar will be here Friday. Friday came. Guitar did in fact get here. But I wasnt too happy to see the way it was shipped. He put the guitar in a guitar nylon case (slight padding built in) and locked the zipper together with some nylon plastic ties, and shipped off. Guitar arrived in nylon bag and I opened. First thing, Guitar was Dirty Like Hell. Oil Prints everywhere, crud here and there. In back of the guitar there was around a 6 x 8 spot of some gummy/syrup type substance. Guitar had some foul/musty type odor to it that adhered to your hands. Disgusting. On top of that, I seen the tiny nick he talked about behind the guitar, but I also seen THREE other nicks which he did not tell me about. One noticeable nick on the head of the guitar. Another one on the top base outer edge of the guitar, and the third which is a noticeable chip on the front outer edge. Looks like someone took a flat head and chunked a piece off. You can see the underlyin natural wood from the blue shell the guitar has. Right around that nick, it has a half quarter size "scab". Like if the impact from the nick, shattered the immediate surrounding area. You can see the tiny barely raised outline crack. The volume knob was loose and has a static problem. The fretboard was a tad bit loose, which I tightened.
We agreed on cross-shipping. I feel like I was took for a fool. I sent my MO on Monday. He received my MO on Wednesday, then he shipped Thursday. On top of that, the guitar was received in filthy/bad odor condition with nicks other than described, bad shipping. And I did not even receive the software he claimed to put in the guitar. Speaking to other guitarists, this was NOT a way to ship a guitar. All he did was put it in a nylon case and shipped off. I took his word cause he claims he knows how to ship and has shipped guitars cause he worked at a "The Guitar Center" shop. Don't know if these other nicks where sustained from improper packing/shipping or he knew about them before hand.
I would advise to think on dealing with any major item with good_sense.July 20, 2002
