  • Purchased a video card via money order. Received different item than advertised. Item was returned to seller and a replacement item was received three months later satisfying the exchange.

I attempted to purchase a Visiontek reference AMD 6970 from m3t4lh34d. I received a flashed 6950 engineering sample card. Initially m3t4lh34d seemed like he wanted to correct the issued, so I sent the card back to him in order to receive either my money back or another 6970 card, this was at the beginning of November. Since then m3t4lh34d has been giving me non-stop excuses for why he hasn't shipped my card. Additionally he seems to have stopped visiting or responding to messages on Anandtech.

After looking on HardForum it seems that not only is he still advertising items for sale, but there are other people waiting for items they have paid him for. Despite him actively posting there, he has not responded to my recent messages.

Bottom line, I would avoid this trader at all costs.

    Update 02/07/2012:

I received my card today satisfying the original agreement between myself and m3t4lh34d. Based upon feedback I have received from the other parties I was speaking with, they have received either their products or tracking numbers. To the best of my knowledge as of today there are no buyers waiting on items to ship which they have paid for.

My negative rating of this exchange stands, as it took over 4 months and involvement from law enforcement to complete the transaction. If you choose to engage in future exchanges with m3t4lh34d, my best advice is to ensure you use a payment method that offers some guarantee to help protect yourself.

Buyer was excellent to work with, he was quick to respond, sent payment immediately after I sent the paypal request, and confirmed receipt of the card when it arrived.
